Teaching of Early literacy
Developing Talk
Young children typically gain several new words a day, acquiring vocabulary at an ‘astonishing rate’. Yet by the time they start school, some children will have heard millions more words than others. The number of words a child has heard and can speak by the age of three is a predictor of later language development, so these early vocabulary gains are critically important. Early Reading
We believe that we have a vital role to play in developing our children’s language toolkit to prepare them to read and write well in the future as this not only underpins academic success in every subject but is fundamental for building fulfilling careers and rewarding lives.
Our intent is to ensure our pedagogy and approach support the key levers for success set out in the ‘Preparing for Literacy’ guidance report produced by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF).
We Are Reading
We promote a love of books and reading from the very start of our children's time here at Hillside Nursery School.
